I am aware that the cessation of container traffic could have serious consequences. A number of discussions on this subject were held under the auspices of my Department over a period of some six months between representatives of both sides of the shipping industry without, I regret to say, any fruitful result. Both parties are aware that I am prepared to arrange further discussions on the subject at any time they may request and I am hopeful that such discussions will be arranged.
