Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Garda Housing Allowances.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the amount of the housing allowance paid to members of the Garda Síochána in (a) Limerick City, and (b) Limerick County, and the whether it is proposed to increase this allowance; further, what steps have been taken to provide houses for married members of the force in the areas in question.

The maximum rate of rent allowance payable to sergeants and Gardaí in Limerick City is £54 9s. per annum. The maximum rates in Limerick County vary from £27 4s. 6d. to £37 2s. 6d. per annum. These figures include increases granted in July, 1955, and further increases are not at present contemplated. Apart from the provision of married quarters at Garda stations no steps have been taken to provide houses for married members of the force.
