Vol. 155 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Costings Commission.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has yet received the report of the Milk Costings Commission, and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter; if he will state the total cost of the commission to the Exchequer to date; and what compensation, if any, has been given to the various farmers who carried out the initial costings.

The answer to the first part of the question is "No." As to the second part of the question, the total cost of the investigation up to the 16th March, 1956, was £30,866.

As regards the last part of the question, an honorarium of £10 was paid to each of 101 farmers for keeping the normal costings records required by the the committee and an honorarium of £30 was paid to each of 35 other farmers for keeping certain additional records of a more detailed nature also required by the committee.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, as already announced, the report of the Milk Costings Commission will be available by 31st March, 1956, and, if not, if he will state the probable date of presentation of the report.

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to a question on this matter on the 23rd February, 1956.
