Vol. 155 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Allowances Applications.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of applications for special allowances submitted since June, 1954, the number decided, and the number awaiting decision; further, if he will state the reason for the delay in arriving at decisions in the undecided cases.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:—

1. Number of applications for special allowances received from the 1st June, 1954, to 29th February, 1956

2,991

2. Number of those applications in which a decision has been reached

1,654

3. Number of those applications awaiting decision

1,337

There is not any avoidable delay in dealing with the cases in which a decision has not been reached. The entire number, viz., 1,337, are at various stages of investigation and everything is being done that can be done to bring them to a conclusion.
