Vol. 156 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Shannon Flooding Problem.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has yet received the final report of the American consultant engineer on the Shannon flood problem, and, if so, whether he has considered the report and what action it is proposed to take in the matter.

I have not yet received the final report from Mr. Louis E. Rydell, the American consultant engineer.

Is it not a fact that a preliminary report on this Shannon drainage was made last October or September? Surely the time is ripe now for the final report to be made available to the Government in order that a scheme can be put into operation at the earliest possible opportunity to relieve farmers in the Shannon Valley area? I will put it this way: can the Minister give me any indication as to when it is likely the final report will be received?

The preliminary report invited comments and suggestions from Departments and services concerned and Mr. Rydell promised, when they were submitted to him, that he would submit his final report as soon as possible. These comments have now been transmitted to him and he intimated recently that he hoped to send the final report shortly.
