The particulars as to numbers asked for are available only in respect of 1st January, 1948 and 2nd January, 1956 and are 615 for 1948 and 2,225 for 1956. The total annual rate of remuneration, including allowances, payable was £760,458 on 1st January, 1948 and £3,037,207 on 2nd January, 1956.
