Vol. 160 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boyle Court Sittings.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has seen a report as to the unsatisfactory arrangements in operation in connection with the sittings of the Circuit Court in Boyle, and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

The rules of court provide that sittings of the Circuit Court are to be held at Boyle and Roscommon at such times as the judge of the circuit shall from time to time direct subject to the exercise by the president of the Circuit Court of the powers conferred on him by Part III of the Courts of Justice Act, 1947, and the Minister for Justice has no functions in the matter. Subject to the rules of court, it is open to the plaintiff in an action to enter his case for hearing at either venue but the Deputy will, of course, appreciate that the Minister for Justice is not answerable for the plaintiff's choice.

I understand, however, that the Roscommon Bar Association are considering what steps can be taken to improve the position and I am hopeful this will lead to a more even distribution of business.
