Vol. 160 No. 4

Married Women's Status Bill, 1956—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to consolidate with amendments the law relating to the status of married women and the liabilities of husbands.—(Minister for Justice.)
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 7th November, 1956.

Mr. Lemass

Will the Bill be available next week?

It will be circulated to-day. The Deputy is very anxious to have work for next week.

Mr. Lemass

I do not fancy the prospect of the Dáil meeting next week with nothing to do.

The Deputy is more anxious to prevent Deputies on this side of the House going down to Carlow-Kilkenny.

The Taoiseach is proposing to take a Bill which he pretends is a Bill of some importance. We have not yet got a print of it. We have only got a typed copy. We will not get the print until next Tuesday.

Order! Will the Minister say when he proposes to take the next stage?

This day week.

Mr. Lemass

Shake the lead out of your pants.

Would someone go in and make peace in the Government?

Did the Deputy make peace in the wangle in Kilkenny and Carlow? The Deputy did not tell us what happened there. (Interruptions).

They did a little meddling in Carlow-Kilkenny.

Dublin was a face saver.
