The text of the Pensions (Increase) Bill, 1956, which authorises increases in both State and local authority pensions is, I understand, on the point of being circulated. Until the precise provisions were settled I was not in a position to advise local authorities on the lines on which it is proposed that local pensions may be increased. I am now in a position to do this and shall do so without delay.
