Vol. 160 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cabra Disablement Allowances.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the fact that in the Cabra area maimed old people have to queue up in the open street to receive their disablement allowances, it is proposed to make alternative arrangements for the payment of such allowances.

The arrangements for the payment of Disabled Persons Allowances in the Cabra area are a matter for Dublin Corporation.

I am informed by the corporation that payment is made from an office in Carnlough Road at 3.15 p.m. on each Friday. All payments are made within a period of from 15 to 25 minutes. Special arrangements are in operation to facilitate disabled persons who might find it inconvenient to attend personally at the office. The allowances of such persons may be collected by properly authorised agents on their behalf. If the allowance cannot be collected by the disabled person or his agent the corporation make other arrangements for payment. The corporation regard these arrangements as adequate and they have not received any complaints in regard to them.

I will request Dublin Corporation to keep these arrangements under review.
