Vol. 161 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Cork Forestry Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will cause the negotiations for the purchase of lands for forestry at Araglen, County Cork, to be expedited so that unemployment among forestry workers in the area can be relieved to some extent.

I would like to assure the Deputy that everything possible will be done to expedite the acquisition of land in the Araglen-Kilworth area. Agreement was reached some time ago for the purchase of two areas totalling 151 acres in this district but the clearance of title has proved to be a slow process. Agreement on price has been reached in the case of a further area of 16 acres and negotiations have been opened in respect of two areas totalling 48 acres. In addition 26 cases involving a total acreage of 551 acres are at the preliminary investigation stages. All of these cases will be expedited as much as possible.
