Vol. 161 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Endorsement of Cheques.

asked the Minister for Finance if he proposes to introduce legislation, or to take any steps for interested bodies to consider the need for legislation, to amend Section 77 of the Bills of Exchange Act, 1882, so as to obviate the necessity for the endorsement of cheques paid direct into the payee's bank account.

If and when I receive representations in the matter from interested parties, I will consider what action I should take.

Has the Minister received no representations? I think he will find representations there prior to the 20th March.

Is the Government not an interested body in the matter of a reform of this kind?

Not yet.

The Government does not endorse cheques, apparently.
