Vol. 161 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals from Kildare County Council for the purchase of a site for housing purposes at Rathangan, County Kildare; and how the matter now stands.

A proposal to acquire a five acre site at Newtown, Rathangan, for housing purposes has been submitted by Kildare County Council. The housing authority have been requested to furnish reports by their technical advisers on certain aspects of the proposal, including nature of the layout plan proposed and the availability of water and sewerage services. This information is awaited.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position regarding the proposals submitted by Kildare County Council (a) for housing schemes at Kildare town and Kilberry, and (b) for single board of health cottages in the rural areas in County Kildare.

Approval was given on 14th March, 1957, to the invitation of tenders by Kildare County Council for the erection of 34 houses in Kildare town. The council have not yet advertised for tenders.

A proposal by the council to accept a tender for eight cottages at Kilberry was submitted for my approval on 10th April, 1957. The council have been requested to furnish certain information required to enable this proposal to be examined.

There is no proposal awaiting a decision at present in my Department for the provision of single cottages, but I am awaiting a report from the council on certain aspects of need and cost in regard to 19 single cottages in the rural areas of the county.
