asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number and average annual remuneration of Social Welfare agents who are (a) whole-time, and (b) part-time; whether they are regarded as Civil Servants; and the number of agents who are permanent and pensionable.

The numbers and average annual remuneration of agents in the Department of Social Welfare are as follows:—

The 43 established agents are regarded as civil servants. The position of part-time agent, in the light of recent legislation affecting the Civil Service generally, has yet to be determined.

The number of agents who are permanent and pensionable is 43.
