Preliminary examination of the returns submitted by the manufacturers indicates that the quantity of tobacco on which the duty mentioned by the Deputy will become payable is of the order of 768,000 lb., giving a gross yield of about £122,000. The net receipt from the duty this year will not be known until the 31st March next as portion of the tobacco involved will qualify for drawback of duty upon being exported as merchandise or discarded as offal.
