Vol. 162 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aerobatics Over Dublin.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that an Army Air Corps plane spent a considerable time performing aerobatics over heavily populated areas in Dublin City on Friday, 24th May, 1957; and whether, in view of the possible danger to the citizens, he will arrange that immediate instructions are issued for the discontinuance of such performances.

No Army Air Corps pilot was authorised to perform aerobatics over Dublin City or suburbs on Friday, May 24th.

It has been ascertained, however, as a result of inquiries, that an Army Air Corps plane was flown outside the authorised training area and, contrary to Air Corps flying orders, engaged in some aerobatics on the north side of the city area.

The matter is being fully investigated with a view to appropriate action being taken.

Air Corps flying orders contain specific provisions governing aerobatics, or flying over cities and towns, and forbid the flying of aircraft in any manner likely to involve danger to person or property or to cause annoyance. Every effort is made to ensure strict compliance with such orders.
