Vol. 162 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Noxious Weeds in City Plot.

andMr. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the presence of noxious weeds on the plot of ground facing the Department of Industry and Commerce, Kildare Street, and the apparent noncompliance with the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936; and if he will take action in the matter.

Mr. Moylan

I have made inquiries about the plot of ground in question and I understand that any noxious weeds thereon have now been destroyed.

Was it through an act of God, as a result of the recent drought, that these weeds disappeared overnight?

Mr. Moylan

I think it must have been the change of Parties.

Does the Minister agree that there should be no discrimination in the enforcement of the law as between dwellers in rural Ireland and Government Departments? In rural Ireland a statutory notice is served on farmers who have failed to destroy noxious weeds. Here, Government Departments require a parliamentary question to get rid of noxious weeds.

And local authorities sometimes.
