Vol. 163 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Forestry Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the total number of acres offered for forestry in the Cahirciveen-Mastergeehy districts, (2) the number of acres inspected, (3) the number of acres so far accepted, and (4) the stage at which a forestry centre will be established in the Iveragh area.

In the Cahirciveen-Mastergeehy district of County Kerry my Department has on hands 50 offers of land for forestry purposes involving a total area of 3,400 acres. Twenty-seven offers comprising 1,243 acres have been inspected and negotiations for the purchase of two of the areas totalling 572 acres will be opened in the near future. The other cases will be expedited as much as possible.

The first block of land acquired for forestry purposes in the Iveragh peninsula comprises an area of 46 acres in the townland of Castlequin which was taken over last month. Work will start on this area as soon as possible.
