asked the Minister for health if there are any plans under consideration regarding the T.B. unit in Belmullet, County Mayo, which has been closed for the past 12 months, and, if so, if he will announce them.

When a deputation from the Mayo County Council met my predecessor in December, 1956, they asked for his suggestions as to the future use of these premises. He suggested that they might be used to relieve pressure on accommodation in the Castlebar Mental Hospital by the transfer of senile patients from the mental hospital.
It is understood that this proposal came before the council when considering its estimates for the current year and that the council decided not to make the necessary financial provision.
I have not received any alternative suggestions from the council.
