Vol. 164 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pasteurisation of Milk in Clare.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fact that the bovine tuberculosis eradication scheme is nearing completion in County Clare, he will state what steps, if any, are being taken for the pasteurising of milk in the areas now served by the travelling creameries.

By arrangement with my Department, the Dairy Disposal Company, Limited, which operates the travelling creameries in County Clare, has for some time past been giving special consideration to the difficult problem of finding a workable method of pasteurising the separated milk from these creameries. I understand that there is now a good prospect that the company's efforts to construct a travelling creamery capable of pasteurising the separated milk will prove successful. The necessary equipment, much of which has to be specially manufactured, is being assembled, and it is hoped that a first experimental vehicle will be available for trials early in 1958.
