Vol. 165 No. 1

Written Answers. - Indices of Gross National Product and Capital Formation.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state, to the best of the information available to him from O.E.E.C. sources or elsewhere, for each of the years 1955, 1956, and 1957 for (a) Ireland, (b) Britain, and (c) all O.E.E.C. countries, all at constant prices to base 1949=100, (1) the index of gross national product, (2) gross domestic capital formation as a percentage of gross national product, (3) the index of gross domestic capital formation, and (4) the index of gross domestic fixed capital formation.

The information requested by the Deputy for (a) Ireland, (b) Britain and the Six Counties, and (c) all O.E.E.C. countries, is shown in the following tables for 1955 and 1956. The material has been extracted from O.E.E.C. publications and the concepts on which the figures are based conform to the definitions used by the organisation. These, in the case of Ireland, differ slightly from the concepts adopted officially. Separate particulars for Britain are not available and data in respect of 1957 have not yet been compiled.
