Vol. 165 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Secondary School Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider establishing posts of special responsibility, with appropriate bonus recognition, for teachers in secondary schools.

Mr. Lynch

I have considered this matter and I am not satisfied that the establishment of such posts is called for.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for secondary school teachers to be paid promptly at the beginning of each month.

Mr. Lynch

Payment of salary in respect of any month cannot be made until satisfactory evidence of service during that month is submitted to and examined by the Department. The present arrangement is that payment is issued on the 11th of each month where service in the preceding month has been satisfactorily vouched for.

The only exception to this is that payment in respect of the month of October is not issued until the 17th November, the reason for this being the considerable number of staff changes which occur in the October quarter. I am satisfied that it would not be feasible to alter the present arrangement.
