asked the Taoiseach if he will state the estimated total number of persons employed in (a) the building industry, and (b) in public utilities, for each quarter in the years 1955, 1956, and 1957.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment in Building Industry.
I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the available information. Quarterly inquiries are not made in respect of the employment in the building industry and in public utilities and the available information is obtained at the annual Census of Industrial Production and covers only the concerns included in that inquiry. For the building and construction industry the latest date available relate to 1955 and for public utilities to 1956.
Following is the statement:
TOTAL number of persons engaged in (a) concerns covered by the Census of Industrial Production in the building and construction industry and (b) in public utilities (electricity, gas and waterworks undertakings) in the months of March, June, September and December, 1955 and 1956.
