Vol. 165 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Honorary Consuls.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the names of the cities in which this country has honorary consuls, and the value of the services rendered by these appointees; and if he will consider making further such appointments in other important centres.

The names of the cities in which Ireland has honorary consuls are as follows:— Antwerp, Beirut, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik and San Salvador.

The post of honorary consul at Manila is temporarily vacant.

These appointees render valuable services in connection with trade, shipping and the protection of the interests of Irish nationals within their jurisdictions.

The appointment of honorary consuls in some other important centres is at present under active consideration.

Would the Minister be in a position to say what are the centres?

There are several centres under consideration. I do not want to mention them because they may not come off.
