Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Assessments for Dublin Differential Rents.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the recent decision of the differential rent section of Dublin Corporation to assess rents on a three monthly earnings basis is causing undue hardship; and if he will request the corporation to accept the rent on the weekly basis in exceptional cases.

The administration of the differential rents scheme is a matter for the Dublin Corporation and I could not properly intervene in the matter. I understand, however, that the corporation apply the system of averaging the family income over a period only in cases in which there is only minor variation in income from week to week and that where there may be substantial fluctuation in income the rent is adjusted as the income rises and falls.
