Vol. 167 No. 1

Ceisteanna (d'Atógaint). Questions (Resumed). - Hogan Commemorative Stamp.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will authorise the issue of a commemorative stamp to mark the centenary of the death of John Hogan, the sculptor.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is prepared to issue a special postage stamp commemorating the centenary of John Hogan, the eminent Irish sculptor.

With the permission of An Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 48 and 49 together.

The answer to both question is in the negative. When the programme of special stamps for 1958 was being drawn up, representations for an issue in honour of John Hogan were considered but it was not feasible to accede to them.

Could the Minister say what commemorative stamps will be issued?

There will be a commemorative stamp in respect of the centenary of the birth of Thomas Clarke and there will be a stamp to commemorate the death of Mother Mary Aikenhead, Foundress of the Irish Sisters of Charity.
