asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the years 1953 to 1957, inclusive, the total sales of petrol in (a) gallons and (b) value, and the total amount received in taxes.

There are no official statistics of petrol sales by quantity or value. However, the net duty paid quantities delivered from bond each year would normally approximate to sales and I propose to include particulars of such quantities in the reply.
As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to include it in the Official Report.
