asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the grave concern which the present slump in butter prices on the British market is causing to milk producers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Slump in Butter Prices.
The present low prices obtainable for butter in Britain, which is the only open export market, are a cause of concern to Governments and milk producers in various countries.
No statement of mine would alter the position which exists there or add to the knowledge which I am sure the Deputy has himself on this subject.
Would the Minister not consider calling a conference of the exporting countries in the British market to try and secure stabilisation of that market?
A conference at which we were represented, in fact, has been held very recently.
Was there any outcome of that conference?
I do not think so—not so far anyhow.
