asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of land to be used for forestry purposes in the period from 1st September, 1957, to 31st March, 1958 (a) the area offered by the Land Commission, (b) the area offered by private owners, (c) the area for which a price was offered, (d) the area for which offers were accepted and in respect of which titles are being investigated and (e) the total area of which possession was taken in each forest area or nearest forest.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land for Forestry Purposes.
In the seven-month period referred to by the Deputy the total area offered by the Land Commission to the Forestry Division for afforestation purposes was 631 acres and the total area offered by private owners was 21,194 acres. In the same period, negotiations on price were opened in respect of a total area of 25,795 acres and offers were accepted and titles are being investigated in respect of a total of 12,501 acres.
As regards the last part of the question the total area acquired for afforestation purposes in the period was 16,654 acres. The allocation of this area between the 95 forest centres affected is shown in a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.
