Vol. 170 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces: Extension of Disability Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence whether there is any provision under the Army Pensions Acts whereby serving members of the Defence Forces who contracted a disease since the termination of the emergency period on 2nd September, 1946, can be paid a disability pension in respect of any disease so contracted; and, if not, whether he will introduce legislation to amend the Acts so as to make this possible.

The Army Pensions Acts make no provision for the grant of disability pensions in respect of disease contracted as a result of Army service subsequent to the emergency period. I do not propose to introduce legislation to provide for such cases.
