Vol. 171 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Appointments Commission: Filling of Medical Posts.

asked the Taoiseach whether he will state in relation to medical posts being filled on a permanent basis by the Local Appointments Commission if due or proper regard is given to the length of time a particular post is held on a temporary basis by a candidate for the permanent post.

Experience gained in the position by a candidate who has held it temporarily is assessed and given credit for in the same way as any comparable experience.

Is the Tánaiste aware that a number of people in Dublin City have been disturbed by the fact that dispensary doctors who gave satisfactory service for a great number of years were not appointed to the permanent posts which they had filled in a temporary capacity? Would the Tánaiste agree that there is something wrong with the system where this can happen and would he agree that, where a man has held a temporary appointment and given satisfaction for a number of years, some system should exist whereby he will have the right to permanent appointment when such a vacancy is to be filled?

I think the Deputy should give notice of that question.
