Vol. 171 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Irish Whiskey in U.S.A.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the sale of Irish whiskey to the United States of America has improved during the past six months; and whether the marketing system has been improved.

During the six months April-September, 1958, the latest for which figures are available, sales of Irish whiskey to the U.S.A. showed an increase of 17 per cent. over sales for the corresponding period of last year.

I am informed that the marketing system for Irish whiskey follows the set pattern for imported liquors and is regarded as satisfactory.

Would the Minister say whether or not, in the figures available for the first nine months of this year, the exports of Irish whiskey dropped in comparison with the figures available for last year?

The Deputy had better give notice of that question.
