Tables 10 and 23 of the Returns of Local Taxation for the year ended 31st March, 1957, contain figures for the cost of rate collection in each county and county borough in that year — the latest for which complete returns are available. These figures do not include pensions paid to retired rate collectors, on which information is not available in my Department.
