Vol. 171 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Cork Barley Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the rejection as unfit for malting of a large quantity of barley grown in East Cork and the payment of only roasting price for it; and, if so, if he has made inquiries to ascertain if the rejection was justifiable.

There is no official control over the marketing or price of malting barley. That being so, no special inquiries have been made regarding rejections. I am aware that barley, like other cereal crops, was affected by the unfavourable weather conditions this year and this, of course, must have had a bearing on the percentage accepted for malting purposes.
