asked the Minister for Education what proposals exist in his Department for the erection of new schools in Limerick City and County; and if he will state the position in each case.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Present position regarding proposals for the erection of new schools in Limerick City and Limerick County.

Rathkeale Convent Girls' and Infants'

The erection of these schools is almost completed.

Drumcollogher Boys' and Girls'

Work on the erection of these schools is in progress.

Ballyhahill

Tenders for the erection of this school have been invited by the Commissioners of Public Works.

Knocklong Boys' and Girls'

The Commissioners of Public Works expect to be in a position to invite tenders for the erection of these schools at an early date.

Castleconnell Boys' and Girls'

Bills of Quantities are being prepared by a Quantity Surveyor appointed by the Commissioners of Public Works. When the Bills of Quantities have been completed, the Commissioners will be in a position to invite tenders for the erection of the new schools.

Broadford Boys' and Girls'

The problem of a water supply for these new schools has now been resolved. Some revisions in the working drawings prepared for the scheme originally proposed are being made by the Commissioners of Public Works. When these have been completed the Commissioners will arrange for the preparation of Bills of Quantities with a view to enabling tenders to be invited.

Raheenagh Boys' and Girls'

Working drawings for these new schools are being prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. When these have been completed the Commissioners will arrange for the preparation of Bills of Quantities with a view to enabling tenders to be invited.

Askeaton Boys' and Girls'

The arrangements which are a necessary preliminary to the sanction of a grant towards the cost of the new schools have now been completed.

Rich Hill

A suitable site has been offered by the Reverend Manager, but certain preliminary arrangements, which are being attended to, will have to be completed before the Department will be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of the new school.

A site for a new schools offered by the Reverend Manager is not now available. The Department is in communication with him in regard to the acquisition of a suitable alternative site.

A site offered by the Reverend Manager for a new school was not regarded as suitable. The Department is in communication with him with a view to the acquisition by him of a suitable alternative site.

Carrickerry Boys' and Girls'

The question of the need for a new school at Corbally is under consideration.

Vocational Schools

Limerick City

Approval has been given to the City of Limerick Vocational Education Committee to enter into negotiations with Limerick Corporation for the purchase of the County Infirmary building for conversion into a vocational school.

Limerick County

The County Limerick Vocational Education Committee have adopted a programme for the provision of schools at Rathkeale, Caherconlish, Kilmallock, Castleconnell, Glin and Askeaton, but definite arrangements have so far been made only in respect of Rathkeale (for which tenders have been invited) and for Caherconlish and Kilmallock where sites have been procured.
