Vol. 172 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haulbowline Water Supply.

25.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the urgency of providing an auxiliary water main to the island of Haulbowline for the steel industry there in view of the large number of men employed, the necessity of a water supply for the industry itself and the probability of a further large increase in employment in the island following the development of the dockyard and the steel industry; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware of the importance of obviating interruptions in the supply of water to Haulbowline Island and as a result of a recent break in the existing main the whole matter is under active consideration. Steps will be taken by my Department in conjunction, as may be deemed appropriate, with other interests involved with a view to ensuring that the supply is maintained.
