Vol. 172 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Barley Requirements.

30.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the barley harvested in this country in the past season will be sufficient for home requirements, and, if not, by how much it falls short of such requirements.

It is estimated that home-grown barley of the 1958 crop will be insufficient for home requirements to the extent of about 50,000 tons.

In view of the fact that there is such a deficit in the amount of home-grown barley, does the Minister consider that that indicates the need to raise the floor price of feeding barley for next year?

The Deputy has not asked how the amount of 50,000 tons is made up. It is not all made up of feeding barley.

Perhaps I might ask the Minister to divide the figure between feeding and malting barley.

I shall do it the next time.
