Vol. 172 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of River Nore.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to drain the River Nore under the Arterial Drainage Acts; and if a survey has been carried out on this important river which is causing severe flooding in County Laoighis and County Kilkenny.

I am not in a position to say when a drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the River Nore catchment can be undertaken. A survey of the catchment has not so far been carried out.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary undertake to have the survey carried out as soon as possible in view of the serious flooding that has taken place last year and this year?

It is easy enough to say "yes" to that but how soon is another matter.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to consider making a start? Once a start is made it is a step in the right direction.

I can assure the Deputy that the Nore is part of the national programme of drainage and it will not be delayed longer than its turn.
