Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Road Fund Grant.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the grant from the Road Fund to Wexford County Council has been reduced this year.

The Road Fund grants to Wexford County Council for 1958-59 have not been reduced. The county council, who had originally reduced their provision for road maintenance below the minimum necessary to qualify for the grants, have now provided the necessary moneys and the full grants are therefore available to them.

Could the Minister say whether the additional money which was provided by the Minister and the Wexford County Council must be spent by 31st March or can it go into next year?

The normal procedure is that it must be spent before that date but if the Deputy wants further information, I should have to check.

Would the Minister consider allowing the county council to spend it in the next financial year?

Until I have some submission from them on that, I could not possibly say.
