Vol. 173 No. 2

Committee on Finance. - Vote 31—Circuit Court.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £3,790 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1959, for the Salaries, Allowances and Expenses of Circuit Court Officers, Temporary Additional Circuit Judges and Sheriffs; the Travelling Expenses of Circuit Judges; and the Expenses of Revision of Voters and Jurors Lists (No. 27 of 1926, etc.).

The bulk of the additional sum required is to make good a deficiency in the estimated fees payable in connection with the execution of court orders and Land Commission warrants. Although some of the fees were increased by the Sheriffs Fees Order, 1958, the yield was not as great as anticipated. On the other hand more expenses were incurred in the execution of court orders. The additional sum required for travelling and subsistence allowances is due to the fact that there were more court sittings in consequence of which the judges and stenographers had to do more travelling.

Vote put and agreed to.
