Vol. 173 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Employees' Superannuation.

10.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a considerable number of manual workers employed by mental hospital authorities are unable to qualify for superannuation benefits under the Mental Treatment Act, 1945; and if he will consider extending the provisions of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, to mental hospital authorities with effect from the date on which that Act was adopted by the contributing county councils.

I am aware that a certain number of manual workers employed by mental hospital authorities do not qualify for superannuation benefits under the Mental Treatment Act, 1945. The question of a revision of the superannuation provisions of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945 is at present receiving consideration, but I am not yet in a position to indicate the decision that will be taken as a result of such consideration.
