Vol. 174 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seanad Commission Recommendations.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has considered the recommendations of the Seanad Commission; if he has agreed to accept any or all of the recommendations; and, if so, which ones he proposes to take steps to implement, and when.

The report of the Commission is at present being examined. I am not in a position to say if any or all of the recommendations will be accepted. The adoption of them in whole or in part would involve amending legislation.

Would the Minister confirm or deny the rumour which is circulating at the moment that his Leader, the Taoiseach, has spent the past three weeks gnashing his teeth and tearing his hair because he did not agree to the motion to abolish the Seanad?

That is a separate matter.
