Vol. 174 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Forestry Programme.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what forestry programme has been planned in respect of each forestry area in County Wexford for the year 1959/60.

Provisional planting programmes for Co. Wexford forest for the year 1959/60 total 672 acres, distributed as follows:—Bree, 29 acres; Coolgreaney, 200 acres; Forth, 190 acres; Gorey, 111 acres; and New Ross, 142 acres. No planting programmes are at present envisaged for Camolin, Curracloe and Killanne Forests but the position could change if land comes in at these centres in the next few months.

In addition to new planting there is of course a heavy programme of other forest maintenance and development work to be undertaken at the Wexford Forests as well as nursery work at the forest nurseries attached to Bree, Camolin, Coolgreaney, Gorey and Killanne centres.

Am I to understand that in respect of Camolin, Curracloe and one other place, land is not available but if there was land, there would be more forestry?

That is the position.
