Vol. 175 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Mayo Flooding.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the flooding caused by the collapse of Keanes bridge, Mullahowney, Attymass, Ballina; and if he will take steps to relieve this flooding.

6.

asked the Minister for Finance when work on the drainage of the river Moy will be started.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos.5 and 6 together.

The channel at Mullahowney on which Keanes bridge is situated is scheduled for attention under the Moy Catchment Drainage Scheme, which was exhibited locally in accordance with the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, in February and March last. Pending compliance with the further requirements of the Act in regard to consideration of observations received, consultations with other Government Departments, and confirmation of the scheme, I cannot say when drainage operations might commence, or how soon thereafter the Mullahowney area would be reached.
