Vol. 176 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport.

12.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is likely that construction will commence on the runways and terminal building of Cork airport.

13.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what progress, if any, has been made in the construction of Cork airport; and if he will state the approximate date upon which the airport is likely to be completed and open for operation.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take questions Nos. 12 and 13 together.

Preliminary drainage works at Cork airport site have been completed.

The plans and specification for the runways have been completed and it is hoped to be in a position to invite tenders at an early date.

Plans for the terminal buildings have been prepared. Extensive site excavation works, which will form part of the runway contract, will be necessary before work on the buildings can commence. The buildings will, however, be completed concurrently with the runways.

It is anticipated that the airport will be ready for operation in 1961.
