Vol. 177 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Winter Relief Schemes.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has yet notified to local authorities the amount allocated to them for winter relief schemes.

As the Deputy is no doubt now aware local authorities have recently been notified of the amounts of their allocations for the winter programme of special employment schemes.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary able to say why there was such a delay this year in notification?

One of the reasons possibly is that the new Parliamentary Secretary required some little time to have a look at the schemes—time which, I am sure, the Deputy would grant.

But the schemes have not been put up. All that has been done is that the amounts have been notified.

The amounts have been notified. I think the delay would have no bearing. I think it is correct to assume that local authorities anticipate that these schemes will receive approval readily.
