Vol. 177 No. 1

Written Answers. - Number of Children leaving Primary Schools.

123

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of children who left national schools at the end of the 1958/59 school year.

Figures are not available in regard to the number of children who leave national schools at the end of the school year.

I have had, however, specially prepared figures in regard to the number of children between the ages of 11 and 18 years who left individual national schools during the school year, 1958-59. The total of these figures is 47,862. While I am aware that a number of the children concerned merely left one national school and went to another I have no exact information as to the number so involved.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of children who left fee-paying primary schools at the end of the 1958-59 school year.

There are no statistics of this nature available to me in relation to "fee-paying" (presumably, private) primary schools.
