asked the Minister for Education if he will furnish a statement setting out side by side in respect of each county and each county borough (1) the number of vocational schools erected, (2) the number of vocational schools under construction, (3) the number of vocational schools proposed to be erected in each county in the next five years, and (4) the estimated number of children reaching school leaving age at a recent date.
Written Answers. - Vocational Schools.
The attached table shows (1) the number of buildings which have been erected or adapted as vocational schools, including a small number of rented premises which are used for full time day courses and (ii) the number of vocational schools at present under construction or extension.
Precise information as to the number of vocational schools to be erected in each county in the next five years is not available in my Department but present indications are that the erection of between 40 and 50 new schools and some 30 extensions will be undertaken by county committees of vocational education within the next five years.
Figures are not available in my Department in regard to the number of children reaching school leaving age at any particular date, but the number of children between thirteen and fourteen, the latter being the compulsory school-leaving age, is approximately 50,000. Many of these, of course, are already in postprimary schools.
