Vol. 178 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Payments in Appeal Cases.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the amount of money, if any, paid to persons deprived of unemployment assistance or benefit for allegedly failing to look for work, when such a case is successfully appealed.

Where a person successfully appeals in the type of case referred to by the Deputy, such person is paid the amount of unemployment benefit or unemployment assistance, as the case may be, which he would have received if his claim had not been disallowed in the first instance.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the maximum that a person in receipt of assistance will get? What is the maximum rate that can be paid, other than unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit? What is the maximum benefit the recipient receives in the week while unemployed?

There is no limit to the benefit he can get from the local authority while his case is being heard.

For the benefit of the Deputy, he gets about 12/- less. There were three cases last week.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary following in the footsteps of Mr. Bumble?
