asked the Minister for Education if he will state the proposals adopted or under consideration for the erection and the extension of new schools in Limerick city and county, and the present position in each case.

Following is the reply:

PRESENT position regarding proposals for the erection of new schools in Limerick City and Limerick County and the extension of schools.

NATIONAL SCHOOLS

Drumcollogher Boys' and Girls'Ballyhahill

The erection of these schools is almost completed.

TineteriffeKnocklong Boys' and Girls'Castleconnell Boys' and Girls'

Work on the erection of these schools is in progress.

Broadford Boys' and Girls'Raheenagh Boys' and Girls'

Tenders for the erection of these schools under consideration by the Commissioners of Public Works.

Rich Hill

The Commissioners of Public Works expect to be in a position to invite tenders for the erection of this school at an early date.

Askeaton Boys' and Girls'Eyon—Kishikirk Central

Working drawings etc., for these new schools have to be prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. When these have been completed the Commissioners will arrange for the invitation of tenders for the erection of the new schools.

Sexton St. Convent and Infant Girls' (Limerick City)

The arrangements which are a necessary preliminary to the sanction of a grant towards the cost of the new schools have now been completed and a grant will be sanctioned in due course.

Sites have been offered by the Reverend Managers and a report as to suitability is awaited from the Commissioners of Public Works.

Glenbrohane

A site for a new school offered by the Reverend Manager is not now available. The Department is in communication with him in regard to the acquisition of a suitable alternative site.

Sites offered by the Reverend Managers for a new school were not regarded as suitable. The Department is in communication with them with a view to the acquisition by him of a suitable alternative site.

Meanus

A site offered by the Reverend Manager was not accepted as suitable by the Commissioners of Public Works. The manager has requested that the suitability of the site be again considered.

Proposals for extending National Schools.

There are no proposals at present before the Department.

VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS.

County Limerick:

Rathkeale

Construction work commenced towards the end of October last.

Caherconlish

Site procured.

Kilmallock

Site procured.

Limerick City:

The City of Limerick Vocational Education Committee are contemplating—

(a) the acquisition of the former County Infirmary premises for adaptation as Schools of Commerce, Music and Art;

(b) the erection of a Regional School on a site in Clancy Strand which they have already acquired;

and

(c) the extension and renovation of the Municipal Technical Institute.

Definite proposals in regard to these projects have not, however, yet been submitted by the Committee to my Department.
